Tile spacing and grout preparation
We use tile spacers to maintain joint spacing. Before grouting, we remove thinset from the grout joints, then use a grout float to pack the joints with grout.
Where the project includes wet-area tile work, we install movement joints in accordance with the applicable TCNA method. In showers, we keep inside corners clear of grout for flexible sealant.
Subfloor repair or replacement costs
Subfloor repair or replacement costs $3–$10 per square foot. That range is for the subfloor work, not the entire kitchen tile project.
Cape Girardeau’s predominant soil is Menfro silt loam, and shrink-swell can damage foundations. We keep drainage and sound structural design in mind as safeguards; new tile is not a substitute for either.

Plumbing changes require a permit
If the kitchen project includes plumbing or drainlaying work, Cape Girardeau requires an inspector’s permit before that work starts, except for minor repairs. We distinguish that requirement from the tile work itself: it applies to the plumbing or drainlaying portion of the project.

The Fix, Done Right
Our crew does the work, checks it, and leaves the site clean. You see everything we did.
Some of what that looks like in the field:
- Check shower-wall studs with a level and correct out-of-plane framing before installing backerboard.
- Apply waterproof sealant at board seams, inside corners, screw holes, and the tub-to-wall connection.
